ABOUT US
Welcome
to the web site of The North West Cichlid Group (NWCG).
The group was founded in 1989 by the late tropical fish judge
Brian Wilson and a small band of local cichlid keepers.
Our
first meeting was held in the Royal British Legion in January
1990, and the group has held its monthly meetings at this
venue ever since. The group has a strong membership
base and is the only cichlid group in the country to hold
an annual open show.
We
now have over 50 members mainly from Lancashire, Cheshire,
Greater Manchester, Merseyside and even Yorkshire. Our
Honorary President is Bob Barnes, a renowned breeder of Rift
Valley Cichlids and Catfish.
NWCG
members keep a wide range of Cichlids so the committee tries
to plan a balanced programmed of events.
Our
meetings are friendly and informal, both beginners and experts
are made welcome. Although
we are an independent group, the British Cichlid Association
(BCA) provides us with publicity in it’s newsletter, and several
prominent BCA members have given talks to the group.
Both societies share the aim of furthering knowledge and understanding
of cichlids, many of our members also belong to the BCA.
We also provide a monthly newsletter for members to keep in
touch with the going on of the group.
Meetings are held on the first Friday of the month, starting
at 8.15 p.m. at the Royal British Legion Club, Liverpool
Rd, Skelmersdale.
